With curves in all the right places, this release celebrates the female body.
Constructed using the traditionally masculine technique of handbuilding, groggy clay coils have been layered one at a time to build these pieces. Organic lines and shapes create depth, emphasising the three-dimensional nature of a woman. Slip and a palette knife were used to build up texture and create imperfections. Flaws are what make women uniquely beautiful.
I chose clay to tell this story because of its delicate yet strong nature. Clay starts as a soft mass, and transformed into hard ceramics when fired at high temperatures. Throughout the entire process, it goes through states of fragility and robustness, as we all do.
The amazing women in my life inspired this vessel and I dedicate it to them.
